My Favorite Colorado Ski Resorts

Last winter and spring, I had the incredible opportunity to work remotely in Colorado for a few months. During that time, I managed to ski at over 14 resorts, each offering its own unique experience. While they were all fantastic, here are my top 5 favorites:

1. Crested Butte – This place truly stands out. The views are absolutely stunning, and since it's not an I-70 resort, the mountain tends to be less crowded. The downtown area is one of the most picturesque and charming I've seen, with fantastic restaurants and shopping. The ski runs are varied, with plenty of blues and more challenging sections for those looking for a bit of a thrill. The only downside? It's a bit harder to reach, as the airport is smaller and it’s farther from Denver, but the trade-off is definitely worth it for the peace and quiet.

2. Beaver Creek – I may be a bit biased since I grew up skiing here, but this mountain never disappoints. We’ve always stayed at Bachelor’s Gulch, and I’d recommend it every time. With a wide variety of runs and breathtaking views, it’s an all-around winner. Plus, who can resist warm cookies at the bottom of the village after a long day of skiing? If you love skiing through the woods, make sure to check out Jack Rabbit Alley – it’s my all-time favorite run.

3. Telluride – Telluride is one of the coolest ski towns I’ve visited. The gondola ride up offers incredible views of the town below, and the mountain features European-style après-ski spots and lunch spots with equally great vistas. It’s definitely a must-see if you’re ever in Colorado.

4. Vail – Vail is iconic, and for good reason. The Vail village and the back bowls are simply magical. The skiing is top-notch, and the village feels like something straight out of a European winter wonderland. It’s an experience that’s hard to beat.

5. Steamboat – Steamboat was a bit of a surprise for me. After growing up skiing Beaver Creek, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the views here blew me away! With great skiing and a charming downtown, it’s another resort that’s not on the I-70 corridor, meaning it's less crowded and more peaceful.

Each of these resorts offers something special, whether it's stunning scenery, incredible skiing, or a relaxing après-ski vibe. If you get the chance to check them out, you won’t be disappointed!
